Powered by the internationally recognized American Chemical Society (ACS) curriculum, our chemistry programs give students in grades 2 through 8 the chance to step away from textbooks and into the shoes of working scientists.
By exploring chemistry through hands-on experiments, guided inquiry, and 3D molecular models, students learn how the world works at an atomic level—all while building the critical thinking, safety habits, and laboratory skills needed to eventually pursue independent research and maker projects in our BioMakerSpace!

Elementary Chemistry (Grades 2–5):

Our elementary program introduces young learners to the wonders of physical science through tactile, observation-based experiments. Using everyday materials, students learn how to think like scientists—asking questions, making predictions, testing variables, and sharing their discoveries.
Students Will Learn About:
Properties of Matter: Investigating solids, liquids, and gases using physical characteristics like flexibility, strength, and absorbency.
Dissolving & Solutions: Exploring how solids interact with water, testing solubility, and discovering why some things dissolve while others don't.
Density & Floating/Sinking: Discovering why massive objects can float while tiny objects sink through fun buoyancy challenges.
Heating & Cooling Changes: Observing reversible changes (like melting and freezing butter) versus permanent chemical changes (baking powder reactions).
Introduction to Atoms: Building fun, physical models (using Snap Cubes and building blocks) to understand that everything in the universe is built from tiny, rearranging building blocks.
Middle School Chemistry(Grades 5–8)

Our middle school program takes students deeper into the molecular world. Moving beyond simple observation, students investigate chemical bonding, chemical equations, phase changes, and reaction rates. This rigorous course fulfills core physical science requirements and prepares students for high school chemistry and our BioFUNdamentals Programs.
Students Will Learn About:
Matter, Density & States
Kinetic Molecular Theory: Particle motion in solids, liquids, and gases, and how thermal energy alters molecular behavior.
Changes of State: Evaporation, condensation, freezing, and melting at the atomic level.
Density & Measurement: Mastering mass, volume, water displacement, and liquid density ($D = \frac{m}{v}$).
Atoms, Bonding & Chemical Reactions
Atomic Structure: Protons, neutrons, electrons, energy levels, and navigating the Periodic Table.
Chemical Bonding: Exploring covalent vs. ionic bonds, Lewis dot structures, and molecular polarity (why water is the "universal solvent").
Chemical Change: Endothermic vs. exothermic reactions, pH indicators, catalysts, and a hands-on Engineering Design Challenge where students build working temperature-control devices.
